Adaptive Communication | Morgan Eastman | TEDxUSF

Communication is fundamental for social connection. People with disabilities, however, are often ignored, underestimated, and marginalized by the broader society. Adaptive communication explores ways in which conversation can be modified to work between two people who speak different languages. This idea expands the idea of diversity to include people with disabilities and proposes everyday action to make the world more inclusive. Morgan Eastman is a graduate student with Patel College of Global Sustainability. She grew up in Tallahassee, Florida with diverse educational experiences that shaped her. Being deaf, she views the world through a different lens with a keen focus on visual information and nonverbal communication cues. This was strengthened during her undergraduate career in Gallaudet University. This strength enabled her to be creative with adaptive communication throughout her graduate school career. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
