Why Everyone Should Be a Marksman | Sheila Kanungo | TEDxYouth@DAIS

In her talk, Ms. Kanungo presents the highlights of her journey through sports, complete with successes and hurdles. She presents a powerful account of the role of women in sports, overcoming socio-cultural barriers to embrace the benefits of sport. Sheila Kanungo is a pistol-shooter who won the silver medal for Women's Air Pistol Pairs in the 2002 commonwealth games and is the current honorary secretary of the National Rifle Association along with being a top-class coach. Hailing from a small town where idea of a woman studying, let alone becoming a sportsperson, was pretty far-fetched, she has overcome an umpteen amount of barriers over the past 30 years to become a highly accomplished sportswoman. One of India’s top shooting coaches, Ms. Kanungo has won 13 National Championships and Several State Championships along with winning at the commonwealth games, and has also been awarded the Shiv Chhatrapati sports award.
