How the crisis response tool Ushahidi gives voice to the people | Angela Lungati | TEDxKamitiPrison

Angela Oduor Lungati helps run Ushahidi, a technology platform for crisis response, which collect reports from victims on the ground and field staff via SMS, email, web app, and Twitter. It can quickly triage reports and organize rapid response across numerous agencies, as well as document ongoing changes in the field with real time mapping and visualization tools. Ushahidi, which translates to “testimony” in Swahili, was developed to map reports of violence in Kenya after the post-election violence in 2008. Since then, thousands have used our crowdsourcing tools to raise their voice. Angela Oduor Lungati is the Director of Community Engagement for Ushahidi and the co-founder of AkiraChix, which nurtures generations of women, building solutions for Africa using technology. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
