The Invisible Minority | Mei Tam | TEDxYouth@SHC

One day, the Asian American community do not have to invisible. Growing up as a Chinese American, Mei shares her perspective of how the lack of asian representation within the media and curriculum has impacted her and many other Asian Americans. Mei Tam is a senior at St. Ignatius College Preparatory in San Francisco, California. As a Chinese-American attending a predominately white high school, she has come to realize the importance of keeping one's own identity despite being a minority. She hopes to help Asian Americans redefine their identity that many, including herself, has struggled with growing up. Mei hopes that once Asian-Americans can change how they view themselves, the community will become more comfortable with themselves and they will have the confidence to raise their voices. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
