It's about time we realize the opportunity cost that the generations to come will have to pay. Water is necessary to sustain life, and yet it is a resource that is depleting at an alarming rate. Bakht Baryar talks about how we "conceptualize water as something that we will always have", a thought for which urbanization is largely to blame. Ease of access to water has resulted in the resource itself being taken for granted, and often, wasted. Conjuring scenarios of water related issues that the world, and specifically Pakistan, can be expected to face in the near future, he urges individuals to do something about it. Bakht Baryar is currently engaged as a Young Development Fellow with the Ministry of Planning, Development and Reform. He read Political Economy at âKingâs College Londonâ and is joining the âUniversity of Oxfordâ in the fall of 2017 for a programme in water security, management and policy. His work with government and international exposure enables him to shed light on pertinent global issues such as water, peace and security. He has worked with Forcier Consulting in Somalia on post-conflict development and is also actively involved in charity works both in United Kingdom and Pakistan. His active participation with the student community and youth leadership activities has helped in stay in touch with growing demands, needs and issues that the global youth faces. Over his career, Bakht also served as the âWarwick Junior Commissionerâ on energy and sustainability at the University of Warwickâs International Gateway for Gifted Youth. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
