What does it take to get astronauts to Mars? Hear Dr. Virginia Wotring discuss her work in the field of space pharmacology, the changes that the human body undergoes in the spaceflight environment and her critical role in making space travel healthier and more productive for different kinds of astronauts. Dr. Virginia E. Wotring is an Assistant Professor at the Center for Space Medicine and the Department of Pharmacology at Baylor College of Medicine. She is also the Chief Scientist and Deputy Director at the Translational Research Institute and Science and Integration Manager for the National Space Biomedical Research Institute, two non-profits associated with NASA. Dr. Wotring earned a BS in Chemistry and Biochemistry from Florida State University and a PhD in Pharmacological and Physiological Sciences from Saint Louis University. Her research focuses on the use and actions of medication for spaceflight and she has two currently funded research projects onboard the International Space Station. Her other projects include studying women’s health treatments during spaceflight missions.
