Multifaceted India: The Rural and Urban Perspective | Ramaswami Balasubramaniam | TEDxBITSPilani

Being a social activist, Dr. R Balasubramaniam has seen the riches of the avenues in Delhi and Mumbai, as well as witnessed the rags of quaint hamlets in corners of the country. Watch this video as he gives a striking contrast between rural and urban India on the TEDx red carpet. R Balasubramaniam is development scholar, author, public policy advocate, leadership trainer and activist. He studied medicine at Mysore Medical College, did management from BITS Pilani and masters in Public Administration from Harvard University. He is credited for his profound contribution in development of rural Saragur in Mysore. Apart from this, he was the Frank H T Rhodes Professor at Cornell University between 2012 to 2014 and continues to hold prominent positions in other universities. Also, he is the founder of nation’s leading non-profit organization, Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement (SVYM), a development organization which is based in Saragur. Under this project he worked on issues pertaining to health care, water, sanitation, HIV-AIDS for marginalized rural and tribal communities. He is the chairman of Grassroots Research and Advocacy Movement (GRAAM), a public policy research institute based in Mysore.
