How to become a quantum physicist in five minutes | Jacob Sherson | TEDxAarhus

In his talk, Jacob invites us into the strange world of quantum physics and explains how anyone can become a quantum physicist by playing computer games. Besides enabling ordinary citizens to solve quantum physics research challenges (and beating trained scientists and supercomputers at their own game!), these games open a window to the player's mind and creative potential. By understanding how gamers build their own "quantum intuition", Jacob and his team get a glimpse into the amazing power of the human mind and with these insights hope to construct an "equation for innovation". Jacob is an established quantum physicist who has, among other things, created the coldest crystal in the world. He is now breaking down the walls of the laboratory and making physics research accessible for everybody by turning quantum problems into engaging games. Some years back, podcasts on gamification in industry gave Jacob the idea to create ScienceAtHome, an online gaming platform that democratizes science by allowing anyone to make genuine contributions to scientific research. Now, with the help of gamers around the world, he aspires to create a quantum computer â€" the most powerful computer in the world. This just proves that sharing ideas can create a real change, which is what TED is all about. For Jacob, being a part of TEDxAarhus is a great opportunity to use his discoveries about quantum intuition of people and change our perception of scientific research. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
