"Harry Potter and the Golden Snitch" | Tushigt-Erdene D. | TEDxBaruunUrt

In this fascinating presentation, D. Tushigt-Erdene (a 12th grade student from one of Baruun-Urt's local secondary schools) explains how a rather simple story in a "Harry Potter" book opened up a whole new world of possibilities for him. Using the story of Harry Potter and the golden snitch as a foundation, Tushigt-Erdene explains to audience members how his encounter with this story left him a thirst for reading and a hunger for learning English. By charting his journey through English reading and the English language, Tushigt-Erdene is able to showcase some of the immense personal and professional success he has had as a result of his English learning progress. Hopefully, the revelation of such success will encourage other Mongolian students to open an English language book and reach for their own dreams. Possessing a nearly complete mastery of the English language and a voracious appetite for books, Mr.D. Tushigt-Erdene has emerged as perhaps the most highly honored student in all of Baruun-Urt. Mr. D. Tushigt-Erdene has credited his fluency in English to the motivation and valuable life lessons that were provided to him by the many famous characters of English language literature (especially Harry Potter). As Mr. D. Tushigt-Erdene prepares to graduate from secondary school next summer (and subsequently travel to the United States), he hopes to encourage other Mongolian students to make a full-time investment in learning a foreign language. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
