"English is our Bridge to the World" | Ninj-Erdene Kh. | TEDxBaruunUrt

As one who traveled to, studied in and graduated from an American university, Kh. Ninj-Erdene occupies a place of immense respect amongst her colleagues. While Kh. Ninj-Erdene is grateful for her own success, she worries that the success she was able to achieve might not be as accessible to others. In a heartfelt and pertinent presentation, Kh. Ninj-Erdene explains how her study and eventual mastery of the English language provided her with more opportunities than she could have ever imagined. Using her own success as a guidepost, Kh. Ninj-Erdene explains how learning English allows one to connect with people, places and institutions on a more intimate level than ever before. According to her, it is that level of intimacy with others that will enable Mongolians to become the people that their country needs. Ms. Kh. Ninj-Erdene has one of the most accomplished backstories of any TEDxBaruunUrt speaker. After falling in love with foreign languages and cultures at an early age, Ms. Kh. Ninj-Erdene has developed her English speaking abilities into a full-fledged (and highly decorated) career. Since traveling to, studying at and graduating from an American university, Mrs. Kh. Ninj-Erdene has spent the majority of her life working in Ulaanbaatar (the national capital of Mongolia) as both an English language instructor and an English language curriculum director. In her current position as head of the Mongolian English Teachers' Cooperative, Ms. Kh. Ninj-Erdene works on improving rural English teachers' understanding of and ability to teach English in an immersive manner. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
