Inspiring the Fearless Generation | Scott McCrum | TEDxNorwichED

There are two types of fear. One that keeps you alive, and one that keeps you from living. The most difficult and dangerous battles take place inside of us, and teenagers are some of the most vulnerable and susceptible to these inner battles. Quite simply, because there is very little emotional structure or support for these young people to fall back onto. 1 in 4 teenagers experience suicidal thoughts, and in the last decade the number of 11-15 year olds who self-harm has tripled. How do you instigate creativity in an environment that breeds anxiety? How do encourage confidence in a culture of insecurity? How do you inspire a fearless generation in a world riddled with fear? If fear didn’t exist, what would your life look like? At the age of 19, Scott McCrum set up Fearless the youth ministry of Proclaimers church. Now two years later, Fearless has grown from a total of five youth to eighty. Along-side studying Fine Art at Norwich University of the Arts and assisting several charities in promotional projects, Scott is passionate to see the change in this generation whose lives are too often governed by fear. Fearless is built on the foundations of reaching potential, influencing culture and building future. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
