The Amnesia Industry | Michael Bruner | TEDxAzusaPacificUniversity

This TEDx Talk is a meditation on time and space, both of which frame our existence and give us reference points for who we are and how we are to BE. Late modernity has bred The Amnesia Industry, which seeks to reduce both time and space so that they can be commoditized. But we become the collateral damage in that exchange because we lose the frame that allows us to know and be ourselves. The only way to recapture the frame is to practice the discipline of remembering, which not only allows us to reclaim both time and space, but also allows us to remember who we are and who we are becoming. Michael Bruner is an Assistant Professor of Practical Theology at Azusa Pacific University. He was born and raised in the Philippines, attended the University of Washington and Princeton Seminary, and received his Ph.D. in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary. He is a resident scholar at the Huntington Library in San Marino and has worked in the church as an ordained minister, in business as a dot.com and advertising executive, and in publishing as an editor. His main vocations, however, are writing and teaching, in both academia and the arts. He lives in Pasadena with his wife Jenna and their two children, Arabelle (8) and William (3). He is an avid exercise enthusiast and loves the outdoors and traveling. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
