From desert to Antarctica- a swimmer's journey and lessons learnt | Bhakti Sharma | TEDxIIMUdaipur

Lifeguards, walls on which to rest, lane ropes and a shallow bottom on which to walk. It’s the absence of these and more….not to mention the immutable superiority of nature that makes open water swimming not only challenging but also dangerous. But Bhakti Sharma, has taken to it like a duck to water and her idea is to inpire us with her experiences. Listen to her motivational yet amazing story of being the youngest open water swimmer to have crossed 5 oceans. Bhakti Sharma is an open water swimmer who comes from the desert land of Rajasthan, India. Bhakti Sharma was introduced to deep waters by her mother-cum-coach, Leena Sharma at two and a half years of age. Twenty one years of hard work later, she holds the distinction of being the youngest female swimmer in the world to swim in 5 oceans (Indian, Atlantic, Pacific and Arctic, Antartic) and 8 seas. She was awarded the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award in 2010. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
