Every human being deserves a dignified death | Dr. MR Rajagopal | TEDxIIMIndore

Dr. Rajagopal in this powerful TEDx talk stresses the importance of alleviating pain that terminally ill patients undergo during the evening of their lives. He emphasizes that terminal suffering is not just physical but creates a psychological, social and financial trauma in individuals and their families. Through palliative care he endeavors to fight this suffering and appeals to the students present in the audience to champion his cause of making medical care more humane in nature. Founder Chairman of Pallium India, a palliative care non-governmental organisation based in Kerala, Dr. Rajagopal is credited with creating one of the most successful community based palliative care programs in the world. He is also the Director, W.H.O. Collaborating Centre for Policy and Training on Access to Pain Relief. Alternately wearing the hats of clinician, academic, and activist, Dr. Rajagopal is a major global force behind efforts to promote and put into practice the right of patients with severe pain to live and die with dignity. In 2014, Dr Rajagopal was honored by Human Rights Watch with Alison Des Forges Award for Extraordinary Activism.
