The Trouble with Aging | Reshma Dhrodia | TEDxRougeRiver

Over 4 million residents of Ontario will be 65 or over by 2036 and yet agism has been recognized as the most tolerant form of discrimination. Reshma Dhrodia discusses the current challenges faced by our aging population and how we can all become a vital part of eradicating agist discrimination. Reshma Dhrodia, M.A., M.S.W., R.S.W. is a social worker, counsellor and social justice advocate who does mental health work and outreach with older adults and young people within high priority neighbourhoods in Toronto. Her professional focus is in the areas of geriatric outreach, gender-based violence, trauma-informed practice, and anti-oppression. She has volunteered and worked for several prominent community organizations and hospitals within the GTA including the Scarborough Women's Centre, the Centre for Addictions and Mental Health Eating Disorders and Addictions Clinic, West Park Healthcare Centre, and was Chair of the Board of the Toronto Rape Crisis Centre - Multicultural Women Against Rape. For the last two years, she has also been running a project to engage post-secondary students in Scarborough to prevent violence against women through training, education, and awareness raising campaigns in-person and online via social media.
