The Creativity Conundrum | Helen Barraclough | TEDxBradford

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Whilst Creativity and Challenge are current' buzz words' in all areas of education and employment, do we really want to work and educate creative, challenging people? The Creativity Conundrum explores the opportunities and risks of nurturing creativity and atmosphere of safe challenge. Helen is the Managing Director of Space Connections, a Community Interest Company based in Bradford that is dedicated to inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers through exciting, innovative programmes working with local businesses and other partners. Space Connections co ordinate the annual Bradford Science Festival and the National youth rocketry challenge (UKAYRoC) where the winning team visit NASA. After working in the R&D department of Kelloggs (Helen is disproportionately proud of her role in nut cluster development), she enjoyed a successful teaching career in a variety of schools in Greater Manchester and became an accredited football coach as part of her commitment to engaging hard to reach students. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
