Success Through Social Physics | Alex 'Sandy' Pentland | TEDxBeaconStreet

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. The pattern of how we communicate with other people largely determines our success in life, more so than our IQ or our schooling. Successful patterns are ancient and built directly on our biology. By harnessing them we can leverage our social networks to make better decisions, be more creative, and be more successful. Exposing young children to these patterns is particularly important, since they contribute to good brain development. Alex `Sandy’ Pentland helped create and direct MIT’s Media Lab. He was named by Forbes as one of the 'seven most powerful data scientists in the world’, along with Google founders and the CTO of the United States, and advises the World Economic Forum and the United Nations Secretary General. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
