Nourish to Flourish: Building a Health Movement through Fresh Food | Lisa Helfman | TEDxRiceU

How do you define a happy and healthy life? Today, Lisa Helfman is happy and healthy, but she has not always been. Though her journey through life appeared seemingly perfect, her reality was quite different. After joining a co-op to better nourish herself and her children, she started a non-profit that is now nourishing families nationwide. Brighter Bites is not only creating communities of health through fresh food for the families it serves, it did the same thing for Lisa. Watch Lisa’s TEDx talk to see how she discovered the key to health and happiness: a virtuous cycle of caring. Lisa Helfman is the Founder and Board Chair of Brighter Bites, a non-profit that has delivered over 15,000,000 pounds of fresh produce and nutrition education materials to more than 30,000 families at over 100 schools in Houston, Dallas, Austin, New York City, Washington DC and Southwest Florida with more to come. When she isn’t pushing kids to drink kale smoothies, Lisa is Director of Real Estate for H-E- B Grocery Company and is working on the company’s innovative expansion in Houston. Lisa received her JD Magna Cum Laude from the University of Houston Law Center and her BA Cum Laude from Tulane University. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
