Stories behind the death penalty in Singapore | Kirsten Han | TEDxNUS

As controversial as it may be, it remains undisputed that the death penalty ironically draws out the most human of emotions and experiences. In her talk, Kirsten explores the power of resilience in the face of imminent death, and shares poignant stories on the families of death row inmates. Kirsten Han is a Singaporean freelance journalist who often gravitates towards social justice and human rights issues wherever they may be. As someone who volunteers and is involved in various causes in Singapore â€" from the campaign to abolish capital punishment to labour rights to freedom of expression â€" Kirsten is most interested in social movements around the world and particularly in the growth of civil society in Singapore. When she writes about politics, she doesn’t just want to look at it as a game of thrones, but rather as something that has very real consequences on people’s lives. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
