Light Matters | Rob Thacker | TEDxMSVU

From art to science, the influence of light is so profound we often fail to see it. It has no mass, yet can change the way the entire universe evolves. Whole fields of art have been ignited by it. The absence of light brings us fear, but too much makes us sick. Few things have such an emotional, physical and intellectual connection for humanity. And as we discover more about it, our future will be even more dependent upon it. Dr. Rob Thacker is an astrophysicist, an educator, and a media personality. He’s a professor of Astronomy and Physics at Saint Mary’s University and a Canada Research Chair. He’s worked on early universe cosmology, structure formation, and on high redshift galaxy formation and the impact of AGN feedback on the downsizing phenomenon. As a core member of the Virgo Consortium, he's played a role in the latest generation of simulations. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
