With a passion for materials and craft honed by working for years as a designer/builder, Alan Metcalfe’s focus is on the creation of social spaces and informal education through play. Alan Metcalfe’s Philadelphia-based architecture and design firm, Metcalfe Architecture & Design, has won many awards including the 2010 AIA Philadelphia Gold Medal and 2010 American Association of Museums Excellence in Exhibition. Inga Saffron, the Philadelphia Inquirer’s architecture critic wrote about their tree canopy walk, “(Metcalfe Architecture & Design) applies time-honored architectural tricks to enhance nature’s drama…the result is a space that exerts an irresistible allure…†Alan Metcalfe, AIA, LEED AP, holds a Master of Architecture from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from Tufts University.
