Expanding Worldviews: From Personal to Cosmic | Jonathan Peterson | TEDxItascaCommunityCollege

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Jonathan Peterson attempts to explain the benefit of changing perspectives from a narrow culturalistic perception to a more universal view of man-kind. Jonathan Peterson is a student at Itasca Community College, where he participated in the engineering program and is currently completing his Associate of Arts. He is a lifelong learner with a particular interest in science, philosophy, engineering, and science fiction. His greatest passion is aerospace, particularly space exploration and spacecraft design. This passion, and the generous support of his family and school, led him to attend the inaugural 100 Year Starship Symposium held by NASA and DARPA in Orlando, Florida in late 2011. Johnathan recently began writing his own science fiction and philosophy with plans to publish in the future. In addition to both academic and personal studies, Johnathon volunteers in the United States Civil Air Patrol where he mentors young leaders and specializes in aerospace education. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
